Students of Thursina International Islamic Boarding School (IIBS) have once again achieved international recognition through the World Mathematics Invitational (WMI) 2026. Organised by the WMI Organizing Committee together with the Chinese Mathematics Organization based in Taiwan, the prestigious mathematics competition brings together students from different countries to test their logical thinking, analytical skills, and problem-solving abilities according to international standards.
In Indonesia, the competition is supported by Edukultur Indonesia together with several educational institutions appointed to host the Preliminary Round. Thursina IIBS was trusted to serve as the organiser for the Malang Regional Round, reflecting the school’s commitment to building a strong olympiad development system focused on quality and global competitiveness.
At the WMI 2026 Final Round, held from July 10 to 14, 2026, in Chiba and Tokyo, Japan, Thursina IIBS students brought home several awards. Habibi Iswat Risya Harris (Grade 12) won a Gold Medal, while Atha Rasyid Rizqi (Grade 12) and Naufalyn Ranadhiya Putri Hadi (Grade 11) earned Bronze Medals. Daffa Mahardika Krishnanta (Grade 8) and Amirah Adzra Karim (Grade 11) received Merit Awards.
These achievements were the result of a systematic and continuous training process. In preparation for the Preliminary Round, participants completed 15 training sessions, each lasting 90 minutes. After qualifying for the Final Round, the training intensity increased to 30 sessions of 90 minutes each, with a focus on strengthening mathematical concepts, developing problem-solving strategies, and becoming familiar with international-level questions.
WMI Preliminary Round Malang Regional Coordinator and mentor, Ustaz Dwi Prasetyo Pribadi, S.Pd., explained that the training process was not only aimed at winning medals, but also at developing strong academic character that would help students face future challenges.
“WMI provides many benefits for students, from developing logical, critical, and creative thinking skills to building confidence in facing international competitions,” said the VP of Curriculum.
“They also become familiar with global-level question standards, which will help prepare them for other olympiads. Just as importantly, the process trains discipline, perseverance, sportsmanship, and a strong determination to keep going,” he added.
As a mathematics expert, Ustaz Dwi said he was proud to witness the students’ development from the preparation stage through to their performance in the Final Round.
“As a mentor, I am very grateful to have witnessed the students’ efforts directly. I hope this experience will motivate them to continue developing their potential and to confidently face even greater challenges in the future,” Ustaz Dwi said.
The success of Thursina IIBS students at the World Mathematics Invitational (WMI) Final Round 2026 reflects the implementation of the school’s RECODING Values, particularly Inspiring, which encourages every student to turn achievement into a source of inspiration for those around them.
Through consistent training, perseverance, and the courage to compete on an international stage, the students have not only brought pride to Thursina IIBS, but also shown that dedication, hard work, and a love of knowledge can help shape a generation that inspires others and is ready to make a positive contribution to society.
