Thursina International Islamic Boarding School (IIBS) commemorated the 81st Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia through Independence Day ceremonies held simultaneously at the Female Campus and Male Campus on August 17, 2026.
Carrying a spirit of independence rooted in contribution, the series of activities became a moment for students to reflect on the meaning of freedom while strengthening their sense of responsibility as the next generation of the nation.
At the Female Campus, the ceremony took place at Harvard Field and was attended by all female students together with the asatiz and asatizah. Chief of Human Capital Management (HCM), Ustazah Dian Asmi Setoningsih, M.Pd., served as the ceremony inspector.
In her address, she encouraged students to reflect on the Independence Day theme, “Indonesia Berdaulat, Adil & Makmur” or “A Sovereign, Just, and Prosperous Indonesia,” by taking an active role in the nation’s development, especially amid the rapid advancement of technology.
Students were encouraged not to remain merely users of technology, but to grow into changemakers who are able to combine knowledge, creativity, and Islamic values in the work they create.
“As future leaders, scientists, public officials, and professionals, they are reminded to use their knowledge and authority responsibly and to ensure that every contribution brings wider benefits to society,” said Ustazah Dian.
Meanwhile, the Male Campus held its ceremony at Twin Field, attended by all male students together with the asatiz. Chief of Thursina International Office (TIO), Ustaz Qoirul Mansur Darojad, M.Pd., served as the ceremony inspector.
In his address, he emphasised that love for Indonesia can be shown through dedication to learning, discipline, honesty, and a readiness to contribute to society.
Ustaz Qoirul also encouraged students to be grateful for independence, good health, and the opportunity to receive an education. He reminded them of the importance of praying for the nation’s leaders so that they may always receive guidance from Allah SWT in carrying out their responsibilities.
“We should all have the courage to broaden our experiences, whether in different parts of Indonesia or abroad, without losing the awareness that we must return and contribute to our homeland,” said Ustaz Irul.
The Independence Day celebration continued with creative performances by the students. At the Female Campus, Indonesia’s cultural diversity was presented through various performances, while the Male Campus featured a large-scale drama depicting the historic moments surrounding Indonesia’s independence.
The occasion also reflected the Care value within Thursina IIBS’s RECODING Core Values: a form of care expressed through the awareness to use knowledge, opportunities, and personal potential for the benefit of others.
Within Thursina’s educational context, independence is not limited to celebration. It is translated into the courage to grow, the willingness to serve others, and the readiness to take an active role in contributing to the nation.
