Thursina International Islamic Boarding School (IIBS) has reaffirmed its commitment to nurturing outstanding Qur'an reciters and memorizers through the At-Tabriz Teaching Method's Socialization and Standardization Program.
Held at the Harvard Hall on Saturday (August 1, 2026), the program brought together all Murobbi, Murobbiah, and Tahfiz teachers as part of a strategic initiative to establish a unified standard for Qur'an instruction across Thursina IIBS.
Initiated by the Center of Qur'an Education Academy (QEA), the program supports Thursina IIBS's broader goal of becoming a Center of Excellence in Qur'anic education and advancing its Holistic & Balanced Education approach.
By standardizing its teaching method, Thursina aims to provide a Qur'an learning experience that emphasizes not only accurate recitation but also the development of strong Qur'anic character.
The At-Tabriz Method is a tahsin (Qur'an recitation improvement) approach specifically developed by the Center of Qur'an Education Academy Development Team to meet the learning needs of junior and senior high school students.
Unlike the previous method, At-Tabriz primarily uses examples from Juz 30, Juz 29, and Juz 1, making the learning materials more relevant to students' memorization targets. This approach helps students develop fluent, accurate recitation early on before progressing to more intensive tahfiz programs.
Vice Principal of Qur'an Affairs at Thursina IIBS, Ustaz Irwan, S.S., M.Pd.I., explained that the At-Tabriz Method was developed as an educational innovation based on the practical needs of Qur'an learning at Thursina.
"We designed the At-Tabriz Method as a tahsin learning solution that better suits the characteristics of junior and senior high school students. All learning materials use verses that are closely related to their memorization targets, allowing students to improve their recitation more effectively. We hope our students will not only read the Qur'an correctly but also memorize it with high-quality recitation from the very beginning," he said.
The name At-Tabriz carries a profound philosophy. It is inspired by the renowned Sufi scholar Shamsuddin At-Tabrizi, who is widely recognized for guiding people toward closeness to Allah through good manners, sincerity, and spiritual purification.
In the context of Qur'anic education, this philosophy reflects an approach that goes beyond technical recitation skills, aiming instead to cultivate individuals who live by the Qur'an's values.
Linguistically, At-Tabriz also signifies excellence, brilliance, and outstanding achievement, aligning with Thursina's vision of delivering a holistic approach to Qur'an education.
Starting this semester, the At-Tabriz Method will be implemented for all new Grade 7 and Grade 10 students. Before the implementation, all Murobbi, Murobbiah, and Tahfiz teachers participated in a standardization program covering the method's philosophy, teaching techniques, and assessment standards to ensure consistent learning quality across all classes.
Through the development of the At-Tabriz Method, Thursina IIBS demonstrates its Religious value within the RECODING Values by introducing an innovative Qur'an learning system that focuses on improving recitation quality, strengthening memorization, and nurturing strong Qur'anic character.
This initiative further reinforces Thursina IIBS's commitment to building an internationally recognized Islamic educational ecosystem that produces graduates with noble character, academic excellence, and a deep connection with the Qur'an, preparing them to become future leaders of civilization.
