For Tristan Razka Aquila, competition guidelines serve as a small map that helps him prepare for different competitions. They help the Grade 9 student of Thursina International Islamic Boarding School (IIBS) identify what he already understands and, more importantly, what he still needs to learn. This simple preparation helped him take part in three olympiad competitions during June 2026.
Through this approach, Tristan achieved good results in three olympiads held through the Pusat Kejuaraan Sains Nasional (Puskanas) platform. He participated in the Olimpiade Sains Nusantara (OSN) 2026, organized by Yayasan Prestasi Maju Indonesia, the Kompetisi Sains Nasional (KOMPAS) by Puskanas/Gemanesia, and the Olimpiade Sains Siswa Nasional (OSSN).
There was no intensive training schedule or special preparation before the competitions. Instead, Tristan focused on strengthening his understanding by reviewing the topics that were likely to appear in the competitions.
“I made sure to review the materials listed in the competition guidelines and then focused on the parts that I had not fully understood or mastered. Other than that, I did not have any special training schedule,” said Tristan, who had also won a Gold Medal at the Olimpiade Rihand Creative XXVII 2026.
Competitions are not new to him. During his time at Thursina, Tristan has participated in the National English Festival 2025, Olimpiade Rihand Creative 2025, and Olimpiade Rihand Creative 2026. His interest in English olympiads began even earlier, during elementary school, when he often joined similar competitions.
For Tristan, taking part in another olympiad was an experience he truly enjoyed.
“I was happy to have another opportunity to join an English olympiad, and I am grateful that I was able to achieve good results,” he said.
Tristan completed two of the three competitions while staying at the boarding school, while he joined the OSSN during the school holiday. Thursina supported him by providing Wi-Fi access, devices, and a comfortable space in the Common Room so that he could participate in the competitions with full concentration.
This support became especially important when he experienced an internet connection problem during one of the competitions.
“Although there was an internet connection problem, the ustaz on duty at the Teacher Office (TO) helped me, so I was able to continue the competition smoothly,” Tristan explained.
For Thursina, this kind of support is part of its Holistic & Balanced Education approach, which provides opportunities for students to develop both their academic abilities and personal interests. Achievement is encouraged through access to resources,, a supportive learning environment, and guidance when students take the initiative to develop themselves.
Tristan’s journey also reflects the Inspiring value of RECODING. His consistency in joining competitions shows that achievement can grow from simple habits: continuing to learn, evaluating one’s abilities, and making the most of every opportunity.
“I hope the achievements from these competitions and future ones can help me enter a good school. I also want to join more competitions during my time at Thursina,” he concluded.(izz)
