Thursina International Islamic Boarding School (IIBS) has reaffirmed its presence in intellectual excellence through the impressive achievement of one of its top students. Mohammad Rafael Darmawan secured second place in Quranic Scientific Paper (KTIQ) for male category in the Musabaqah Tilawatil Qur’an (MTQ) organized by LPTQ of Lamongan Regency. It serves as a tangible example of an "internationally minded" profile, harmoniously blending deep spiritual literacy with scientific methodology.
His success is the result of an intellectual journey undertaken through two and a half months of intensive mentoring. As an aspiring global citizen, he was required not only to master the substance of the Quran but also to communicate it through rigorous academic writing standards and comprehensive presentations. Aligning with Thursina IIBS efforts to foster a cross-cultural mindset and enabling local values to compete effectively in the broader academic arena.
Rafael expressed his gratitude for the success, dedicated to his parents and teachers. The achievement at the regency level serves as a strategic gateway for him to represent the institution at the provincial level during the upcoming East Java MTQ in 2027 .
Ustaz Much Maftuhul Fahmi, M.E.— as both mentor and competition chaperone—stated that the accomplishment sets a crucial precedent for Thursina IIBS.
“It surpasses initial expectations and marks a new milestone for the institution in the KTIQ category. We see great potential in Rafael to expand a global network through scholarly works grounded in prophetic values in the future,” he stated pridefully.

With thorough preparation, Rafael is projected to become part of a group. representing the modern, internationally minded santri of modern Islamic boarding school on both national and international stages.
