Majelis Az-Zahrawain Strengthens Qur’anic Spirituality at Masjid Zahratul Ummah

As part of its ongoing commitment to building a holistic educational environment and strengthening the spiritual foundation of future leaders, Thursina International Islamic Boarding School (IIBS) held Majelis Az-Zahrawain, a special Qur’anic gathering dedicated to the recitation of two great chapters of the Qur’an.

The gathering featured the recitation of Surah Al-Baqarah and Surah Ali Imran and was held in a solemn atmosphere beneath the grand dome of Zahratul Ummah Mosque on Thursday morning, May 14, 2026.

The event was attended by members of the board of directors, murabbiyah, tahfidz mentors, and all female students of Thursina IIBS. The presence of the educators reflected the institution’s continued commitment to nurturing Islamic values while preparing students to develop a strong and open-minded outlook in an increasingly diverse world.

In his opening religious address, Head of the Thursina IIBS Sharia Council, KH. Imam Awwaluddin, Lc., Ph.D., explained that the gathering was held as a continuation of a spiritual tradition entrusted by KH. Muhammad Ihya’ulumuddin (Abi Ihya). It also marked the closing of the thanksgiving series commemorating the inauguration of Zahratul Ummah Mosque.

“Majelis Az-Zahrawain is not merely a communal Qur’an recitation. It is a spiritual effort to bring the blessings of the Qur’an into our ma’had and make it a moral foundation for our community. We hope that the recitation of Surah Al-Baqarah and Ali Imran will become a source of spiritual protection and a means of bringing Allah’s mercy and blessings to the entire academic community,” said KH. Imam Awwaluddin in his address to the students.

He further emphasized that a close emotional and intellectual relationship with the Qur’an is an essential part of the success of any educational model. The noble character nurtured through love for the Word of Allah will serve as an important foundation for students as they experience cultural immersion and interact with people from diverse backgrounds in international settings.

For Thursina IIBS, foreign language proficiency and strong intercultural awareness must always be built upon a firm foundation of faith.

The gathering lasted for approximately three hours, from 5:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m., and was led alternately by eight of the school’s finest reciters, consisting of senior murabbiyah and accomplished female students.

The recitation of the Qur’anic verses resonated throughout the mosque, creating a deeply reflective and peaceful atmosphere for everyone in attendance.

The communal spiritual gathering was rooted in the well-known hadith narrated by Imam Muslim regarding the virtues of Az-Zahrawain, meaning “the two radiant chapters.” In the hadith, the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ described the two surahs as appearing on the Day of Judgment like two clouds providing shade and protection for those who regularly recited them.

Through this understanding, Thursina seeks to nurture students whose intellectual development goes hand in hand with their spiritual growth, allowing knowledge and faith to complement one another in their educational journey.

The management of Thursina IIBS believes that students’ readiness to gain international exposure should not be measured by language and communication skills alone. Through practices that strengthen spiritual discipline, such as Majelis Az-Zahrawain, the school seeks to nurture young Muslim women who are independent, respectful, steadfast in their faith, and prepared to engage with the wider world.

With strong spiritual depth and confidence in navigating different cultural settings, graduates are expected to adapt to diverse global communities without losing their identity and values as Muslim women.

The gathering concluded with a collective prayer for safety, blessings, and a brighter future for the Muslim community. (iz/lil)
