From Global Citizens to Global Leaders: Thursina Earns IGN Outstanding School Partner Award 2026

Thursina International Islamic Boarding School (IIBS) received the IGN Outstanding School Partner Award 2026 during the Opening Ceremony of AYIMUN Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur.

The award was presented on behalf of IGN President Muhammad Fahrizal to Thursina IIBS Malang, represented by IGN Director Zimmy Syahriar.

The recognition was given in appreciation of Thursina students’ active participation in AYIMUN programs across different countries. To date, 148 Thursina students have taken part in the program, making Thursina the school with the highest number of participants among this year’s award recipients.

At AYIMUN Malaysia, IGN presented the award to partner schools that had sent at least 100 participants to AYIMUN and AWMUN programs. In addition to Thursina, several other schools also received the recognition, including SMA Khadijah Surabaya, SMA Labschool Rawamangun, SMA Negeri 8 Jakarta, SMP Labschool Rawamangun, and SMA Labschool Cibubur.

Head of Specializations at Thursina IIBS, Ustaz Helmi Pakas Rivai, M.Pd., said the award reflected Thursina’s strong commitment to preparing students to take part on the international stage.

“This award is not only about the number of participants. It shows that Thursina, as an international Islamic educational institution, continues to create opportunities for students to learn, discuss, collaborate, and build networks through global forums,” said Ustaz Helmi.

According to him, Thursina does not only prepare students to become global citizens through the spirit of UNESCO’s Global Citizenship Education (GCED). The school is also strengthening its educational direction toward Global Leadership Education to develop students with the competencies needed to become Muslim leaders at the global level.

“We want to go further, from simply preparing students to become global citizens to developing a generation capable of bringing Muslim leadership to the world. They need global perspectives, strong communication skills, critical thinking, integrity, and the courage to make meaningful contributions,” he explained.

Participation in AYIMUN has become one of the ways Thursina students develop diplomacy, leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills. The experience also strengthens their academic and personal profiles as they prepare for further study at leading universities in Indonesia and abroad.

Previously, the IGN Director visited Thursina IIBS on July 22, 2026, to present plans for future collaboration between the two institutions. The meeting discussed the development of programs designed to support Thursina graduates in gaining admission to the world’s top 100 universities and Indonesia’s top 10 universities.

“The shared vision between Thursina and IGN provides a strong foundation for more strategic collaboration. We hope this partnership can expand opportunities for students to strengthen their competencies, build stronger profiles, and prepare their journey toward the universities they aspire to attend,” Ustaz Helmi added.

The IGN Outstanding School Partner Award 2026 further strengthens Thursina IIBS’s commitment to providing internationally minded Islamic education. The school aims not only to develop students who can adapt to the world, but also those who are ready to lead and make a positive contribution to the global community. (Lil)
