A Tradition of Excellence: Thursina IIBS Students Serve at the 81st Anniversary of Indonesia’s Independence Ceremony in Malang Regency

A strong commitment to discipline, consistency, and character development has once again led a Thursina International Islamic Boarding School (IIBS) student to achieve recognition at the regional level.

Azka Faiz Rozzaan, a Grade 11 student, successfully earned a place as a member of the 2026 Malang Regency Paskibraka after completing a series of selection stages organised by the National and Political Unity Agency (BAKESBANGPOL) of Malang Regency.

For Azka, the achievement was the result of consistency, perseverance, and the ability to manage himself amid the demanding daily activities of boarding school life.

His journey toward becoming a Paskibraka member began with the administrative screening process, followed by the National Insight Test (TWK), General Intelligence Test (TIU), medical examination, parade selection, marching drills, physical fitness tests, personality assessment, and finally the pantukhir, the final selection stage that determined the successful candidates.

Behind the achievement were simple but meaningful training routines that gradually shaped his character. For an entire week, Azka independently organised his own training schedule with strong discipline.

On Mondays and Tuesdays, when afternoon physical training was not possible, he used his time in the dormitory to improve his marching movements, using a mirror to evaluate his posture and technique.

From Wednesday to Saturday, the Thursina Junior High School alumnus regularly ran around the Thursina campus area to build his physical endurance. Sunday was reserved for recovery so that his body could remain in good condition for the next stage of selection.

“My coach always reminded me to stay motivated and consistent in training. He could not supervise me all the time while I was at Thursina, so the discipline had to come from myself,” said Azka, who has memorised 16 juz of the Qur’an.

His persistence eventually paid off. After completing the entire selection process, Azka was officially announced as a member of the 2026 Malang Regency Flag-Raising Troop. He is currently undergoing an independent training program before entering a two-week training camp with the other selected Paskibraka members.

“Alhamdulillah, I am very proud and happy to have completed the entire selection process and made it through the final stage. I would also like to thank everyone who has supported me, especially my mother and father, who never stopped praying for me and accompanying me throughout this journey,” he shared.

For Azka, however, this achievement is not the finish line. Instead, he sees the experience as the beginning of a process to build even stronger character.

“I hope that after going through this entire experience, I can become more disciplined, develop a stronger sense of unity, remain humble, and most importantly, stay on the path of Allah. No matter how far we pursue worldly goals, we should never forget Allah SWT,” said Azka, who also participated in the Asia World Model United Nations XII – Bali 2025.

He also hopes that his achievement can open the way for the next generation of Thursina IIBS students.

“I hope the younger students can continue the Paskibraka tradition in the coming years and achieve even better results. Stay motivated, keep training consistently, and never become arrogant when you succeed. A good Paskibraka member is not only physically strong, but also disciplined, humble, united with the team, and committed to maintaining religious values,” he advised.

Azka’s journey reflects the Inspiring value within Thursina IIBS’s RECODING Core Values. Achievement is not only about receiving recognition, but also about becoming an example through the process behind it.

His perseverance, humility, and commitment to continuous growth serve as a reminder that strong character is built through consistent practice, continuous prayer, and the belief that every sincere effort will bear fruit at the right time. (Izz)
